Day Two - Settling In

Today we were treated to a Granddad Marvin tradition: Sunday brunches! The whole family met up at the Maui Prince hotel for a huge buffet brunch. The food was delicious as usual and the setting was very nostalgic (Jessi and I got married at the Maui Prince hotel 3 years ago!). Needless to say, the whole family was stuffed after that.

Jessi, Tony, Sally and I hosted happy hour. This is a family tradition where everyone gathers in someones unit to chat and play cards. I'm very pleased to say that I won the first game of Gin Rummy!

Every year we struggle to remember the recipe for our traditional Mar-Tais (Mai Tais made to my Granddad's exacting standards). This year we're writing the recipe down:
  • 2 Cups Trader Vic's Mai Tai Mix

  • 2-2/12 Cups Orange Juice

  • 5-6 Cups Pineapple Juice

  • 2 Cups Dark Rum

  • 1 Cup White Rum

  • Pineapple chunks

  • Splash of marrachino cherry juice

Serve with pineapple chunks and a cherry.

Day One - Getting Settled

We landed at the Kahalui airport at around 4pm local time last night. The trip was long and a little bumpy but overall pretty enjoyable due to the fact that both of our flights were mostly empty! Jessi and I both got our own row of seats and were able to stretch out to our hearts content.

We picked up our sweet ride (a Dodge Magnum) and cruised on over to Kihei, the town where we are staying. We went to bed nice and early since it had been nearly 24 hours since we first woke up.

The rest of the day was spent running errands and getting our ducks in a row. Soon we'll head over for our first happy hour of the trip. I can't drink during this trip due to my Gout but I'm sure I'll still be happy! :)
